BIOGRAPHY

 

Harriet Goldberg is a Boston area songwriter.  She writes music and lyrics in the style of the old standards - ballads, bossas, and swing. Her music has been heard on the following television shows: ”BULL (CBS), ONCE UPON A TIME(ABC), HAWAII FIVE-O (CBS), CALIFORNICATION (Showtime), CONTAINMENT (CW), THE FINDER (FOX TV), NEW AMSTERDAM (FOX TV), BLUE (FOX International), GRAVES (EPIC), YOUNGER (TV Land), and MEINE SCHWESTER an Austrian TV movie.  Additionally, her music has been played on the Youtube channel’s webseries, BLUE, in I DREAM TOO MUCH, a 2015 film starring Diane Ladd and in FALLING INN LOVE, a 2019 Netflix film.   Harriet’s CD, MY TIME TO FLY has been nominated for Best Vocal Jazz CD in the Just Plain Folks Songwriting Contest. Her songs MY TIME TO FLY, FROM TIME TO TIME and WHY CAN’T WE LINGER IN SPRING (lyrics by Bob Levy) have all been nominated for best vocal jazz song.

Harriet is the winner of MAC’s 2014 DOTTIE BURMAN SONGWRITING AWARD.  And she was one of three finalists for the 2013 Dottie Burman Songwriting Award. Harriet has been nominated for three MAC AWARDS... in 2019 for MY TIME TO FLY in the Song category, in 2016 for THE BOOK GROUP in the Comedy/Novelty Song Category and in 2011 for Best Recording for MY TIME TO FLY.  An instrumental version of MY TIME TO FLY is being used as on hold music for the NEW YORK TIMES, CAPITOL ONE, BARCLAYS, NASDAQ among others.

Harriet joined KRISANTHI PAPPAS as FEATURED SONGWRITERS in BACA’s 2015 INVITATION SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE. Harriet was the featured songwriter at the 2012 PROVINCETOWN CABARET FEST.  In 2012 Harriet was invited to write a song for Boston’s “grand dame of Cabaret,” CAROL O’SHAUGHNESSY for her show “Swingin’ on a Star.”  Harriet’s songs have been featured in Sue Matsuki’s PEOPLE YOU SHOULD KNOW series at DON’T TELL MAMA in NYC, at the NEW YORK SHEET MUSIC SOCIETY, in BOSTON SINGS BOSTON III & IV, in BACA’s 2008 and 2009 Songwriter’s Showcases, as well as the MAC/ASCAP Songwriters’ Showcase. 

Harriet’s work has been heard at Scullers and the Regattabar, two leading Boston jazz clubs, and many other Boston and New York venues including the Metropolitan Club and Don’t Tell Mama in NYC.  Artists who have performed or recorded Harriet’s music include Dane Vannatter, Russ Lorenson, Carol O’Shaughnessy, Krisanthi Pappas, Lynda D’Amour, Shelley Neill, Debra Mann, Cassandre McKinley, Catherine Dupuis, Sandi Durell, Sue Matsuki, Lynn Stein, Ashley Lieberman, Lisa Kantor, Alice Frazier, Lisa Jason, Diane Carey, Elaine Woo and Mary Foster Conklin.  Harriet received ASCAPLUS awards from 2009 through 2015 in recognition of music of hers that had been performed in venues around the country.  She is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers), BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) and MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs).

Harriet’s CD, “My Time to Fly,” was nominated for a 2012 MAC Award for best recording of the year.  Her debut CD, "Bring Back the Moonlight," placed fourth in the vocal jazz category of the Just Plain Folks 2004 Music Awards. Her tune "Suddenly You Walked By" from that CD placed 2nd in the jazz category of the 2002 Billboard Song Contest and was a finalist in the 2003 USA Songwriting Contest. The tune “Now and Then” from Ms. Goldberg’s second CD, “Ocean of Dreams” was a finalist in the jazz category of the 2004 USA Songwriting Competition.
